Never; I wanted to be a General Surgeon (or a trauma surgeon) but since the K doesn't really have dedicated trauma surgeons, and general surgery is effectively an historical speciality, EM was the obvious next choice for me.
I'm not clever enough to be a GP
Tales from the Emergency Department; in which a man who wallows in nostalgia, and secretly wishes he were a Victorian KnifeMan rants about his work and what passes for a life. He's heard it might be therapeutic... Names have been changed to protect the innocent. Any resemblence to parties alive or dead is purely coincidental

Lots of work out here on the Wet Coast of Canada for ER doc's.
Really? I mean really? I'm probably not in a good place to think about moving now, but in a few years... maybe.
Wouldn't i need to re-certify?
Off hand I think we have 4 Brits, 3 South Africans and one new guy, just off the boat trained in Ireland, working in our Emerg an hour or so out of Vancouver. There are some hoops to jump through but from what I hear it's not to bad for UK trained Doc's.
Lots of Skiing, pretty mountains and stuff near by.
And Vancouver.
Plus it's warmer here than what you've been dealing with this winter ;)
