In Praise of Nurses

This post could be almost anything; I might, at a later date muse about the Doctor-Nurse dynamic, specifically as applied to Shroom.
I could simply write how great nurses are... that would surely be too simple, and runs the risk of being condescending.

However, and this is in no way related to a realisation brought on by a comment made to me by a valued colleague while we studied an archaic looking piece of equipment at South Coast General, I would like to say how much I've enjoyed working in my last post, specifically because of the Nursing Staff there and my relationship with them. They have stood by me, even when I didn't have a clue, and when the toys were firmly ejected from the pram, and they drank beer with me, then picked me up afterwards.

Mind you they never let me forget it.

Anyway, thanks.

Just thought I'd come by and say hi.

"Hi."

Yay for nurses. Am currently enjoying some good attention and fun with some right now as a matter of fact!

Best,
PA

What about pharmacists??

I think it was some sort of suction based device. Didn't spend too long with it really; for those interested in archaic medical devices check out the Hunterian Museum at the RCS(Eng)
Clearly I love pharmacists, too, but have less to do with them on a day to day basis, and unfortunately it's mostly them trying to tell me what I can and can't prescribe...

I don't work in a hospital setting so I do not know the ins and outs but from what I do know is that pharmacists are confined by formularies. If you prescribe something outside of that, we have the duty to tell you mostly b/c we cannot stock that item nor can we get it. We are never telling you what to do! We have to follow guidelines too, you know. If they are snarky with you, I will deal with them.

PS We are long overdue for appreciation for all of the medical errors nurses and physicians make on a daily basis (and yes-we make errors too). No one ever thanks us for catching that 10-fold overdose on a peds med yet nurses get a whole "appreciation week" and accolades all the time. What about us? I don't mean to sound whiny but we went to school for a very long time too.
Thanks for listening.
